Dr Kavita is passionate about supporting families through the early years of parenthood. Before becoming a GP, she was a Paedaitric Trainee in the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network for 6 years, including regional and urban units and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Hospital for Women. She also holds a Diploma in Child Health from UNSW.
She has a special interest in the feeding journey of new babies and parents and is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and member of the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine. She is also a NDC (Possums) practitioner and Thompson Method Practitioner.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Kavita is the inaugural Chair of the RACGP Breastfeeding and Lactation Medicine Special Interest Group and teaches as an Adjunct Lecturer at UNSW Women’s Health. She is also a WHO Fides health educator. She is also a shared care provider at hospitals across Sydney, including RNSH, RPAH, RHW, Concord, St George, and Sutherland.
Dr Kavita has over 10 years’ experience in assessment and management of tongue tie (ankyloglossia) from her time on the post-natal wards at RHW, Randwick and in the community. She loves walking alongside parents in the transition to life with a newborn.
